H. ἑλίκωπες οὑλότριχες). - The interpretation `with rolling = quickly moving (lively) eyes' (s. Bq; also Brouzas ProceedAmPhilAss. 1930, p. XXVIIf.) is based on ἑλίσσω, hardly correct. On the basis of ἑλίκωπες as μελανόφθαλμοι in H. an adjective ἑλικός = μέλας was coined; thus, except H., Call. Fr. 299 a. o., s. Leumann Hom.
